I’m partaking in Dry January, Are you?

Here we are over half way through and considering the start to 2017 ** I’m having I’m overjoyed to say I’ve not taken to drink! In the past it would have been my habit to seek solace in a GnT 🙁

I managed Dry January last year, it was my first foray into no alcohol since a couple of pregnancies over 25 years ago, I can’t remember if I was actually totally abstinent then, but I certainly was whilst breastfeeding.

Later in 2016 I committed to a workout programme (Forge) on the online gym I belong to and had to announce my goals publicly on social media. One of my goals was to have 6 units or less alcohol a week, this website really helped to measure a unit correctly.

This type of accountability really concentrates the mind! During these forays into alcohol reduction I have discovered some fabulous low alcohol beverages, aside from sparkling water, elderflower cordial and various teas.

Drinking alcohol is a social, tactile thing for me so having a tasty low alcohol beer or wine in the appropriate glass really helped to break the alcohol habit.

Since this accountability pledge my alcohol intake throughout 2016 remained low even during the festive period and the health benefits were evident. Find out more about the health benefits here.
